Regarding Apps, Maps, and the web: Joel et al, Apps can be useful and pretty but are not always necessary. For something simple like browsing images on a smartphone, mobile web programming may be sufficient. It will reformat the website to fit any device, Apple or non-Apple, without the user having to download an app. The content will be formatted automatically and it can include smartphone-specific buttons and drop-downs. I have Apple and Android apps for one of my research sites (timetree.org), so I appreciate their usefulness, but will soon have a mobile web version for those one-time users who want to use it quickly. An example of what I mean by mobile-web programming is my lab web site: www.hedgeslab.org. In a few weeks we'll be doing same for www.caribmap.org Blair Hedges Penn State _______________________________________________ MapHist: E-mail discussion group on the history of cartography hosted by the Faculty of Geosciences, University of Utrecht.
