Tim (& list), Yes, you are correct about the MaxFiles documentation. I ran a few tests by setting up a file similar to one I have for swapping between 24 & 8 bit colours ie MapInfo Maxfiles.reg REGEDIT4 ; ; This setting must be an integer from 10 to 100 inicating ; how many files MI can open simultaneously. ; the default value is 29 : ; [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Common] "MaxFiles"=dword:00000080 All works OK now. MapInfo please note your documentation. Thanks to all who replied (Butian Wang, Markus Lindner, Mark Knudsen, Marty DeBenedictis).
