A useful product is "Topo Depot". they have the digital version of all the
7-1/2 min usgs quads on CD's. Each CD has an entire state (except NY, CA,
and TX). You can select any of the quads (including tiling them together in
a seamless map) and output them in several formats (including arcview and
mapinfo). The nice thing is that the maps are layered and you can select
just roads, or contours, or bodies of water, etc. The topo is derived from
the 100,000 quads (not from the original 7-1/2 min quad data). They had
problems with their mapinfo output last year, but those problems have been
corrected.
