We are making a conscientious effort to address this inadequacy in our
documentation for MapX v4 in a couple of different ways:
1) We have a new User's Guide. There is a chapter which better addresses
distributing a MapX application.
2) We are including source code for an InstallShield project which will
show developers how to install the MapX OCX.
I hope that this effort will help future developers.

disk using Installshield v2.11.
I've read the manuals, cover to cover, and I know can quote the MapX help on
'Distributing Your Applications' word for word, yet I still can't get
everything working 100%.
Depending on nip or tuck I try, I get different problems: Currently, and most
often, I am faced with a message from InstallShield say that MAPX30.OCX could
not self-register, I also periodically get 'Error 1011: Unexpected Error in
TMDL'....
Thanks to all those people who helped me, particularly Mike and Carl from
Aligned Assetts.
It appearred that I was not that far away from a solution myself. The main
stumbling block was the order in which dlls were installed and registered. I
swapped a few files around and HeyPresto...
Although one is aware that order is significant, and you can figure out some
parts of the puzzle yourself, you're left pretty much high and dry when it
comes to the nitty gritty. Plus I noticed a few minor descrepancies in the
MapX helps files.
It was suggested to me that it would be worth including an Installshield
template with the software. Certainly something needs doing; the documentation
is limited (especially for those who aren't old hands at this) and support
from the Helpdesk is almost non-existent and then only given reluctantly. It's
a shame, becuase it lets a good company and a good product down...
