Dear Friends,
We are in the process of planning a new GIS research laboratory at Dubai
Polytechnic. The work of the lab' will be orientated towards teaching
business and government applications of gis as well as researching gis
applications in the business and government areas appropriate to the context
of the Middle East. I am familiar with MapInfo Pro (version 4.0 I think)
from my days when I was doing my PhD. We have been approached by ESRI
(ArcView) and the GeoProfessional people to make use of their software. I
was wondering if anyone had any idea how MapInfo compares with these two
products and if we would be gaining anything by buying into one of them over
the other. I have been told that MapInfo is not a 'real' gis - is this so?
I might add I have contacted MapInfo on a few occasions to see if they have
an evaluation copy of their latest version of the gis and MapBasic.
Surprisingly, no one has got back to me - so if anyone from MapInfo reads
this - hint hint...!!
Many thanks.
Mike
