Hello List,

a while ago, I asked if anybody can recommend a specific large format
printer. Here' a short summary of the responses.
Thanks to all who took the time.

The following models have been mentioned (in brackets the number of
times the model has been mentioned)

HP Designjet 1055CM A0 (3):
*       excellent quality and fast
*       Best buy for $9.000
* HP 1000-series much faster than 750 series, easier to load, but also a
bit noisier
HP DJ 755C or 755CM A0 (4): Very efficent in terms of media use,
reliable, easy to handle, "The HP755 without doubt was our number one
best purchase for 1998!"
* Not as good as 1000 series, but still impressive
* Good wih postscript option, transparent raster OK with MI 5.5
* OK, when humidity is over 50%, color problems, slow
HP DesignJet 650C(2):
*       Lovely, has served well.
HP DesignJet 750C A0:
*       has served well.

Only those two printers were not of the HP brand:
ENCAD Novajet III A0 Plotter:
*       Works OK
Canon BJC5500 A2 Printer:
*       Inexpensiv, excellent

Some people also noted a few other things to take care about when it
comes to purchase and use a printer. Here's a few keywords to keep in
mind:
* Demand of ink and other consumables
*       Media consumption
*       Lots of onboard memory
*       Paper quality

It seems that HP Printers are the most popular for MapInfo folks,
especially, the HP 1055 or 755 are a good choice. It's probably a good
idea to assess what you plan to print, take a typical file and test the
printer.

Again, thanks for responding - and thanks for reading,
Andreas

PS: has anybody made any experiences with ProPress, MapInfos Printer
Driver?
