I know it's not MapInfo related, but since many MapInfo users are also
ArcView users, I thought this might help some people.

Dear ArcViewer,

This message comes to you either because we have corresponded within the
past
year about ArcView or you have made an interesting inquiry on ArcView-L
during
that time.

Are you tired of the long wait for responses on ArcView-L? Suspicious that
some of the most interesting and valuable material may be suppressed?
Frustrated with the spotty service and long down time on the ArcView-L list
server?

I have finally had enough. Please join me on the UNOFFICIAL, UNSANCTIONED,
COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT ARCVIEW DISCUSSION LIST at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use
it
as you would ArcView-L: ask questions, get answers from the experts:
quickly,
freely, accurately. Its purpose is to be a resource for you in your work
with
ArcView, NOT to promote (or criticize) ESRI.

It's easy to sign up and the questions are kept to an unobtrusive minimum.
Simply visit this list's home page at:

http://ArcView.listbot.com

Fill in your e-mail address and push the subscribe button. You will be
asked
to supply a password, your name, organization name, and zip code, nothing
more. Start using the list just as you have been using ArcView-L: ask
questions, respond to inquiries: but this time feel free to say EXACTLY
what
you think, positive and negative, about the software--your messages will
not be
suppressed or "held" for review. Just send your e-mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
once you have subscribed.

The list is NOT moderated. Your messages will go through quickly. If we
keep
to our convention of responding directly to people and then submitting
summaries of the responses, this format will continue to be effective.

If you like this idea, then please forward this message to as many ArcView
users as you can think of (look through your own e-mail archives). Use
exactly
the same subject line. That way, if you have lots of GIS friends, you can
avoid getting spammed by a zillion copies of this message by setting an
e-mail
filter to discard anything with the same subject line (or, if your email
software is not that sophisticated, at least it's easy to identify the
messages
to delete!). Let the world know about this list.

If you have even better ideas for providing a better question and answer
resource for all ArcView users, then please contact me directly. Let's
make it
happen!

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Bill

PS Many apologies if you receive more than one copy of this message. Some
of
you have corresponded with me using more than one e-mail address and I want
to
make sure to reach you.
