Thanks to all who responded re: opening .txt files as delimited ascii files. The most common answer you offered was to open it in .xl (or similar) and then import it as a .dbf or .xls file - makes sense to me! I'm still working on it as I don't recognise the *%$#@ character that delimits the fields but that's another story....! Anyway, with Trey's help, I'll hopefully have this thing licked, so once again, thanks.
