Has anyone heard of any of these quirky problems. My colleague and I are both
running identical systems - built at the same time - DELL Workstation 400 with
NT (Service Pack 5), and MapInfo 5.5 with Banyan Network. A few months ago I
noticed a printing problem only in Mapinfo whereas a text or label string
would print ONLY if it was exactly horizontal (90deg).If that text was rotated
even 1degree it prints out as a filled box (just like the box when you select
text with the select arrow in MapInfo). I have 4 different printers and
plotters and its the same on all of them. Anyway, I spent hours first of all
trying to figure out why I couldn't get the text to print and why some would
print and some wouldn't. When I realized the rotation was the issue then I
reloaded all of my fonts from the system that didn't have the problem thinking
that maybe the fonts got corrupted. No luck. At the time, I had service pack
4 and MapInfo 4.5 - so I uninstalled 4.5 and loaded 5.5 as well as upgrading
to NT service pack 5 - well, it worked - sort of - for about 1 month. Then
all of a sudden its back - and not only on my system but on the identical
system as well - the same day!!! Now neither of us can print anything with
rotated text.... I'm going crazy with this - we have other quirky things and
I'm leaning towards thinking that NT is the culprit or is it Banyan and NT??
Nothing has been done to the network in the interim. Things like - not being
able to save workspaces which already exist - we can save to a new filename
though - arrowheads and leaders disappearing on a saved workspace. Getting a
floating point exception error and then a fatal application error. - it seems
to be getting worse. My final resort is having my entire box rebuilt -
hopefully this week. Should I go back to NT?? Any suggestions - MapInfo
support swears that its not their software???? HELP.... Thanks.
Giselle
