I already hinted at that problem to Cindy (Mapinfo) but she could not
reproduce it. It is very common to lose transparency of fills after
combining non-intersecting polygons.
I take it as a bug...

This is also reported frequently in the group. See Jacques Paris comments,
which leave no other solution that creating several layers. This is the
only way so far to avoid the problem.
