Thanks to all you wonderful Listers who helped with my buffer and set target
issues.

Here is what I found out:

I was using the buffer and the set target correctly. All your help confirmed
that. At the end of yesterday however I was still running into a brick wall.
I tried calling the tech help line at Integration Tech (we bought MI through
these people) but got voicemail to leave voicemail and they'd call back! Hah!
I put in an urgent distress call to Steve VanErden at Integration Tech. He
was the fella that taught the class I was in waaaaaaaay back. He listened to
my panic and figured out a few things I wasn't aware of. He had me go into my
layer control and close down any queries (had 3 open) then had me go into
Window>Redraw Window. Believe it or not this was the problem. Something
about a wierdism of MI when you have queries open it recognizes these queries
in some strange fashion so when you try to select areas they are selected but
do not show that they are selected. And when you close down the queries and
redraw the window the selected areas will show. whatever, it worked! I now
have a new skill in MI, I can use set target and erase stuff! I still am not
100% clear on how it works like it does which IS frustrating but I am plugging
along.

Thanks,
Sarah Myers
