I am a researcher in a university in Japan. I wish to do work on GIS in agro-environmental resource management/assessment system (to make a decision support system). At the initial stage of my work, I would appreciate any advice/opinions/suggestions on good software (MAPINFO?IDRISI?ESRI?ARCVIEW?AgriMapper??etc.) and referring materials (texts, papers etc.).
