There is another solution. Surflink and Surfer.

Golden Software's Surfer -

Surfer is "the" scientific reference for surface modeling. It has many
interpolation methods and generates 3D visuals "and" necessary contours.
SurfLink is a MapInfo Pro centric DLL that 1) automates the export of MIP
point data to Surfer, 2) provides the Wizzard operation of Surfer and its
modeling engine, and 3) returns to MapInfo Pro interpolated values for
grids, grid centroid points, and contour polylines. Very efficient on very
large data sets. Surfer is $795 and SurfLink is $125.

If you can wait a week, Surfer 7.0 will be available but 6.0 is quite
sufficient and can be had at a discount.
