I enjoyed reading your paper. The thought at the end was particularly
appealing for two reasons:

1) the limitated 2Dness of most current GIS will not be acceptable in the
future - especially if you play 3D games (or your kids do)!
2) more importantly, you have highlighted the  chaotic combinations of
computer processing growth, 'peripheral evolution' (though I feel that the
internet is conceptually much more than that), sofware development
techniques, user demand and commercial interests that we are all
involved with. Who the hell can predict that!? Mind you if it really was
easy - most of us would be out of a job...
