Following a response to a GPS query I checked the following site: http://www.bakergeoresearch.com/ and found a description of a fairly sweeping patent. Is this for real? GeoResearch was issued a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its pioneering contributions to the field of GPS/GIS mapping. The GeoResearch patent covers, among other things, mapping systems that utilize global positioning satellite information to generate or update a geographic information database in real time, or to collect and store, in real time, positioning and other geographic information for subsequent creation or updating of a geographic information database. The GeoResearch, Inc. patent also covers mobile mapping systems that capture satellite derived position information, allow for the entry of geographic features and attribute data, and convert the data into a GIS.
