While I agree that pdf is an effective an efficient format, I have noticed some problems. These all apply to Acrobat 3.0 and not necessarily 4.0: 1. Very complex files, such as contour maps produced with vertical mapper, leave artifacts (e.g. horizontal and vertical lines) after converting to pdf. 2. Text is slightly displaced, so that text that is neatly aligned in the layout window may not be in the pdf file. The effect is on the order of millimeters, so this may not be a problem depending on the application. 3. Layout windows that are clipped (i.e. the layout window is not large enough to show the entire contents of the map) may produce drawing errors when converted to pdf and opened.
