Cost a lot more? Have a really horrible support policy? Run slower?
I too have been thinking about this topic. My bet is this time next year both
companies have a full COM design. The major difference is you will need to
build in VB-A(ke) and have to own SDE to make ESRI stuff go. MapInfo will very
likely become the Java solution via MapJ and its increasingly wise alliance with
Oracle's 8i design. PS - You can get your own copy of Oracle 8i for $395 -
includes the Spatial Cartridge - faster than SDE.
Worse yet is I hear that Jack may be getting ready to sell-up/sell-out. Who
to? Why Mr Bill of course. Total absorption by the BORG.
