Dear all

The original problem was:

"I have a health zone layer and a clinic buffer  layer (10km circles) Some of
the buffers extend into the sea, in these cases I just want the area on land
i.e. the overlap between the buffer and the health zone. I can do it
manually, i.e. trace round the desired area with autotrace, then return the
area of the new region, but can't help thinking there must be an easier
way - any pointers?"

Two possible routes were put forward, both of which were used:

Jason and Rob suggested the objects >erase outside method to modify my clinic buffers to fit the coast (which the malaria zones are snapped to) this did the trick nicely

Thanks to Sue and Sumit who pointed me in the direction of the Area overlap function in MB. This I also used with the newly trimmed clinic buffers as these buffers often overlap several malaria zones.

I seem to spend a lot of time with coasts, possibly due to fact we have about 1000 islands here!

Many thanks for the help
