Thanks to all who responded to my question about a translator from
.bmp to .gif:
* Marc Pelosse suggested IRFAN;
* Chris Perry suggested Graphic Workshop from Alchemy Mindworks;
* Matt Wilkie suggested NConvert, which comes with Xnview;
* Eric Frost suggested LView Pro;
* Pierre Lessard suggested Paint Shop Pro.
As it turned out, I will not need the translator, for I will save
windows directly from MapInfo in .PNG format, the files in this format being
even smaller in size than in .GIF. However, I will explore the conversion
programs you suggested, for the need will surely pop up again in the future.
