D: Re: MI Excel's MapInfo Data Installer Error & Comments on MS Map vs MI

Hi Andy and Listers,

Try to save your MapInfo file with 8 character longe file name, i.e. DOS type naming.
I once sorted out my similar problem by doing so.

To Listers,

Any other solution, listers ?

MS Map should be a popular but low end GIS tool since it is on Excel.
And it should become easiler and make contribution in the promoting of
GIS applications worldwide. (Or firstly the mapping on MicroSoft chain softwares. )
But there is very limited discussion in this list or other list. Even MapInfo seems
do not mention the MS Map connection, at least, on their web site.

Is there a newsgroup, or discussion list about MS Map ?

Though the justification of large market share of MicroSoft chain software is always
debatable. But they are there and started GIS application already.

Will there be a war in GIS field between Microsoft and GIS vendors ? Just like
the spread sheet field happened early 90's ?

Any lister want to comment ?

D: MI Excel's MapInfo Data Installer Error

Hi Listers,

I'm getting an error 'Error reading Map Feature Information' when adding tables to the Map Manager in Excel. Excel in this case is from the Office 97 Pro suite and MapInfo is version 5.0. I've tried outputting tables as v2.0 nut i'm getting the same errors. Each of tables are either all regions or all text. And so far i've failed to get most of my region tables included in the data manager's list. Has anyone got any solutions. (also no mention of excel's data manager at the microsoft site: something to do with mappoint probably)

Andy B.
