I've updated the links on the navigation panel at the old
MapInfo-L shareware page at
http://www.directionsmag.com/mapinfo-l/ and added one. The new
link is called "Shareware Tools" and points to the new Tools area
mentioned below. These are the same files that you have been
downloading all along; just presented differently. At the moment,
there are still more files accessible from the old page than the
new, so for a while, we'll maintain both pages, but soon it will
all be on the new pages.

These new pages are a lot more automatic and interactive than the
old ones, so I hope the service is better. The top downloads list
is back too. I'd also be interested in your feedback, but before
anyone comments on it, the banner ads around these is what pays
for all this, so be sure to patronize those who are doing the
funding!

This is planned to contain a lot more than just MapInfo tools
(take a look at the "Associated Product" list off the "Upload"
link). This experiment is to work out the best way to deliver and
maintain a commonwealth of shareware tools and utilities for the
entire GIS community. One criterion is that it be as
self-maintaining as possible, and so you can now do your own
upload, write your own descriptions (if you want help with
english, let me know, but non-english descriptions are okay if
you like), etc. We hope to soon offer a way for authors to update
their own stuff, but for now, if you need things changed, just
ask me. Files still have to be approved manually, but we may be
able to allow immediate access to unchecked new files soon.

The files that appear here are considered shareware, but owned by
the individual authors, and as usual will not be sold or bundled
with commercial CDs, etc. See the Disclaimer if you have
questions. Demos are okay too, but they must be clearly labeled
as such. In case you're wondering we assume that files uploaded
here are for the public use, but that authors retain all
copyright unless he or she specifically places the file "in the
public domain" (using those words). Authors may include their own
disclaimers and conditions, and them's the rules. If you have
questions about the use of any of these, contact the authors
directly. Any author who wants files removed, just ask me and
I'll take care of it as soon as I can.

Note that you can also add a link to your own web pages from the
Upload option if you have tools to share with the community.
However, restrain yourself from just sticking in a link to your
"Buy from us page", because if you don't offer any lagniappes
(gifts), these entries might be dropped or put somewhere else.
Maybe we'll add a little user rating system to these links
someday.

Anyway, try it out and see what you think. If you have any
mechanical problems with pages email the webmaster, Rob Martinson
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, but suggestions, comments,
philosophy, whinging, etc. can go to me or the L. Don't forget
the Wish Lists Resources for feedback, too! This files section is
called the "Tools Directory" and you reach it by clicking on
"wish lists" on the left hand navigation panel.
