Jure,

I recently had similar thoughts about MapInfo not understanding Group IV compression
Tiff properly, but...

We had some thousand Tiff G4 maps, created in MicroStation, which were shown inverted
in Mapinfo, but I turned out that it was MicroStation that couldn't handle the Group 4
issue.
As far I understand the problem with different interpreters is in Tag number
262(&H106) called PhotometricInterpretation which in bilevel images is either 0
(meaning WhiteIsZero) or 1 (BlackIsZero). The problem is that with CCITT compressed
data "Tiff reader must reverse meaning of white and black when displaying and printing
the image" if PhotometricInterpretation tag is set to 1 i.e.BlackIsZero. (From Tiff
6.0 spesification, page 50).
This is where MicroStation failed and I assume your problem is pretty much the same.
Let me know if you need/have further information.

Regards,
    Anssi
