Dear Gerardo,

Here are just a few things to look into when considering making a change :

1) Cost : MapInfo and Vertical Mapper versus ArcView and Spatial Analyst
(the latter combination is more expensive to my knowledge. besides : MI
has native raster support these days : my best guess is that in future
you only need MI)

2) Functionality : from what I have experienced MI is better in handling
databases (including all kinds of ODBC sources). Better in handling map
projections (AV users please comment ! : is it true that you have to have
all your maps in the same projection to be able to overlay them ?)

3) (Map) Data : MI comes with Universal Translator, pretty handy if crucial
to GIS is often the ability to
import a variety of data formats. BTW : does AV these days have native MS
access support ??

4) User interface : In my opinion MapInfo has a better and more intuitive
GUI than AV (win 3.1 gui)
and is easier to use.

Regards,

Ton
