I've been asked to produce a map about which I have some concerns with
potential legibility. My client wants to plot 500 - 600 store locations
across the total US, with a 3-digit label for each. The map would be 36"
by 48." Many stores are concentrated in major markets such as NY, Chicago,
LA, etc. I don't have a large format plotter - usually to produce an
oversize map I email an EPS file to a print shop.
To get an idea of what it would look like, I chose a DesignJet 750 printer
and specified 36x60 page size. Based on this, however, it looks like
there's no way to get the symbols and labels to be legible unless I go with
a very tiny symbol and font size.
Has anyone done such an exercise who can provide suggestions on a) whether
this is visually possible, and b) if so is it reasonable to just make it
work at 8 by 11, then produce an EPS file and have the printer output it
to the appropriate size.
Thanks in advance,
Josh
