Hi Ian!
As I am told (search the archives of this list) this is all due to a
reported and confirmed bug in v5.5.
To my dismay, rumor has it that MI does not intend to fix this before
the next release.

The *only* known workaround so far is to create all buffers in the very
same table as the seed objects.
If - which may often be the case, that table is write protected, one
must save a local copy of the seed objects and then use that for buffer
creation.

Complicated, I know and a real PIA but those are my findings on this
matter.
