Since some servers around the world are planning to shut themselves off for the rollover to Y2K to avoid hacker attacks, viruses, hocus pocus, and other divers alarums, it probably will result in a lot of undelivered MapInfo-L mail bouncing back here. That means the work load here clearing my mail box is probably going to increase, so here's what will happen: As long as the server here can handle it, I'll let them pile up, deleting them as necessary. However anyone's server still bouncing mail by Tuesday after the new year will be assumed KIA and their subscription to MapInfo-L will be dropped. If we start to get swamped here, I'll also start dropping addresses if they bounce too much mail. If you get dropped from MapInfo-L, or think that's happened, simply try to sign up again once you get things sorted out. If you can't reach [EMAIL PROTECTED] to resubscribe, that possibly means we bit the dust here. In that unlikely event, watch for announcements on either Usenet newsgroup comp.infosystems.gis, http://www.mapinfo.com, http://www.ctmap.com/gisnet, or http://www.directionsmag.com. You might even contact someone else from the list whose address you have, and do a little prairie-dogging (you know, when a loud disturbance happens in an office and everyone's head pops up over the cubicles?) If 1500 people ask me all at once what's going on, you probably won't get an answer. In any case, if there are problems, they will be temporary so don't worry, be happy. Perhaps we'll all have no trouble at all and Y2K will only selectively eliminate all spammers like the KitKatCLub.com, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Anyway, I figure if New Zealand winks out at 00:00:01 01/01/2000, then Australia, South Pacific, Asia, and so on, we here at 105 west will get nearly a whole day to prepare! - Bill Thoen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
