The Bonne projection is a "pseudo-conic" projection. It is the conic
analogue
of the Sinusoidal projection. (You can also consider the Sinusoidal to be a
special
case of the Bonne projection.)
Both projections have the property of being equal-area.
Unfortunately, MapInfo does not support the basic algorithm for the Bonne
projection, presumably because not enough people have asked for it.
The Polyconic projection will give you a similar effect but it won't be
equal-area. The Albers Equal-Area Conic will be equal-area but will look
even less like the Bonne projection.
