Thanks to everyone who offered advice re: the Ontario PCCF file set up
for geocoding. Two things that I had to do after establishing the data
fields using SPSS:

1) convert the Longitude to Decimal (11,6) (had to be longer than the
latitude because of the negative ....thanks to Jason Adam and Kenneth
Laas for your suggestions!!!)

2) Use Query>SQL to extract the "best" (or only) postal code records.
The SLI field includes 1's and 0's where 1's indicate the 'best' and 0's
indicate duplicate records resulting from the pc straddling and EA or
block-face. Then I used the "best" records to geocode!!!! Evidently, the
"best" records also worked to create points for the PCCF.

So, the Statscan data IS workable...........will wonders never cease.
