Dear list
I apologise if this is a really simple question but it has me stumped! I
should add that i am a relative newcomer to MapInfo.

My question is:
Short version :How do I carry out a UNION (Arc/Info) in MapInfo.

Long Version:

My problem is that i have to layers:
a) a Postcode Boundary table (Posctode), and
b) a Ward boundary table (Ward).

What I want to do is create a new layer with (to use an ArcInfo command)
the two layers UNION'ed. The idea is then to carry out a count of each
household in each new area by Point in polygon analysis of my address
list.

I have tried:
SQL select where Postcodes.obj Intersects Ward.obj.

This returns a layer which looks identical to the postcode layer. I had
presumed that it would show both layers intersected. However when i use
Identify it shows the correct number of wards per postcode, but to make
things interesting, when i examine the browser, it shows only 1 ward.

Just for fun i carried out another SQL to find out which households were
in which area only to find that my total household number had increased
six fold.......

Any ideas....???

Am I breaking all the rules of good GIS practice??

TIA

Jon Bloor.
