Did you use the Create Points utility from the Table Menu and assign the
proper columns of your spreadsheet to Lat and Long?   Were your Lats and
Longs in Decimal format?  Did you use negative numbers for East and South
and positive numbers for North and West instead of N, S E and W? You need to
answer yes these questions.

Hello all, I created points manually (lat,lon) in a spreadsheet program and
am attempting to bring them into a MI map. The scales seem to be way off and
I guess I figured it should be easier than it is. Any help would be great.
