Tom,

I ran into this same issue with an old Tiger file.  The problem is
that the table you are trying to edit contains too many fields or
"columns" of data.  I don't recall, and I can't seem to find my text
file explaining this further, but if you have a table containing
something like (17 or 27 rings a bell) fields or columns, you will
recieve this error message.  I simply removed the columns leasted
needed and the table was editable as normal.
