Thank you to Brian Forrester and Jacques Paris for their solution. You can use ObjectInfo(obj,3) in the update column expression. You need to make sure you are updating to a text field. Also you will need to make sure that you only have text objects in the table (you could do a sub select to get just text objects) or the update will crash. One final note is that I had multi-line text and it comes through but you will need to edit the table to take out the ascii character. Thank you list and particularly Brian and Jacques.
