Hi, I think what we have here is a classic case of two sides to a continuing argument. As a geologist I try not to "alter" data that is sent to me, normally because the data is commonly sent under contract and should have been "sorted". Similarly, If we send data out, we prefer not to have third parties altering our data, unless they are making it clear to their clients who's done what and why. But, in the real world, I have to deal with mislocated stuff all the time (normally via a MIF export, a quick affine calculation and that unsung hero of MIF ..the transform clause...). Its a question of expediency versus accuracy. The decision has to be guided by the scale of your work (hey I'm always moving bits of the Shetland isles......so inconsiderate of them to be so far north) and your responsibilities to the copyright owner of the data. If you are sure its not going to 'hurt', then I cannot see a major problem, BUT...you should add a comment to the dataset/metadata to say what you've done and why....At least that way, you can always go back and start again. regards to all Russell Lawley Geologist British Geological Survey here comes the caveat>>> The comments expressed above are my own and may not reflect those of my employer. <<<<<<caveat over, back to your lives every one..ooh time for coffee ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
