  You might like to know that GRASS now has links to the PostgreSQL rdbms
and the R statistical system. Also, GRASS is being ported to the win9x/NT/2k
environment; the analytical engine works, but the GUI is still in
development.

  For those unfamiliar with GRASS, check out http://www.baylor.edu/~grass.
It is a raster/vector/image processing system. Free of charge and comes with
all source code. Originally developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, it
is now being developed by an international team. The US headquarters is lead
by Bruce Byars at Baylor University; the European side is lead by Markus
Netteler at University of Hannover. Last I heard, the win version will be
distributed like the linux/solaris/freeBSD versions: no charge and with all
source code.
