Great news?  I understand there may be a SDE-Lite that extends SDE over Access?  Anyone got the skinny?

Subject: MI SDE and MapInfo Summary

Mappers!

There seems to be only one product for MapInfo-SDE connectivity..

From Brien Green:
/===================================================\
Applied GIS makes SMC. This allows MapInfo to act as a Client to SDE Servers
much like ArcView does. visit
http://www.appliedgis.com/sde2mi.htm for details.

No I don't have any personal experience using it.

Or if you really want to. You can write your own using SDE's API.
\===================================================/

However, from Applied GIS's web site, the description does not sound like it gives
you the functionality of ArcView connecting to SDE..I e-mailed Applied GIS a couple
days ago to clarify some issues before making the purchase from them but haven't
heard back..

I also received this response:
/===================================================\
Who needs SDE?!!?  Typical ArcPoop: "here, buy another product to do
anything"

Check out the MapInfo - Oracle solution at
http://www.mapinfo.com/welcome/mi_oracle/index.html

I guess with this kind of thinking I shouldn't expect much new development
of MapInfo-SDE connectivity tools :)

I am most curious about Brien's suggestion about just using SDE's API..
if Applied GIS's SMC product is not very flexible perhaps that is the way
to go.. but I don't suppose ESRI included a function to dump to mif/mid
or tab haha which is what Applied GIS provides..

Any additional insights or comments greatly appreciated!

Eric
