Yes, it is up to a point - the file format is the same but it does take some
fiddling in a text editor and it pays to know the new commands recorded
under v5.5 that are not available in the earlier version.
Having opened the workspace file (your workspace name.WOR) in a text editor,
first modify the second line of the file from:
!Version 550
to
!Version 450
and save it under a new name with the old "WOR" extension. This workspace
will now begin to open under 4.5 until it runs into a command it doesn't
understand when it will stop and error out. If there are no new commands
in the workspace then it should open completely.
You can then have a go at opening it under v4.5 or you can work your way
through the file removing / modifying any commands etc. that are supported
by 5.5 but not the target version.
For most of us, it can be a bit of an iterative process -
open workspace file in text editor
change version in 2nd line,
save & exit editor
do until workspace opens
attempt to open in 4.5,
note erroring line,
close all files (MI)
open workspace file in editor
modify or delete erroring line
save & exit
loop
I usually get sick of this process very quickly and look for a better way
out - creating a new and simpler workspace in 5.5 is always an option - if
you dont use any features not supported in the target version before saving
the workspace only the version line needs be changed.
Good luck
Russ
