MapInfo tech support says this is a "known problem".
what we do is create a lie... add an entry to your projections table (or
edit the NAD27 entry) that's exactly the same as the NAD27 but uses the
units "feet" instead of "survey feet". For the kind of work we do
(planning) the tiny, tiny difference in units is completely un-important.
here are the lines from my MapInfo.prj file for my part of the world
"Oregon 3601, Northern Zone (1927)\p32026", 3, 62, 8, -120.5, 43.6666666667,
44.3333333333, 46, 2000000, 0
"Oregon 3602, Southern Zone (1927)\p32027", 3, 62, 8, -120.5, 41.6666666667,
42.3333333333, 44, 2000000, 0
"Oregon 3601, Northern Zone (1927 ft)\p32026", 3, 62, 3, -120.5,
43.6666666667, 44.3333333333, 46, 2000000, 0
"Oregon 3602, Southern Zone (1927 ft)\p32027", 3, 62, 3, -120.5,
41.6666666667, 42.3333333333, 44, 2000000, 0
The second two I created. Convert your shape file using those and life will
be swell. The difference is the change of "8" to "3" in the "third number".
This specifies the units.
The exact difference between survey feet and international feet was
explained in a Mapinfo-l post a while ago that I'm sure could be gotten from
the archives... but I'm too lazy to look. :)
