MI remove street names from address

I have a table with a column of street addresses such as "14963 140th St."  I want to remove the "140th St" portion and be left with just "14963" in either that column or another column.  Can this be done in Mapinfo or Excel?  If so how?   Thank you   Dave Lagerstedt
