I'm probably way off mark here but one reason might be the following.
When you create a new table an ID file gets created. Each object you
create in the table produces 4 bytes in the ID file, a 4 byte long
integer( eg 9 objects = 36 bytes for ID file). However if you leave the
table empty ( ie no objects ) then the ID file exists but is 0 bytes in
size.
Some methods of copying files will leave out files 0 bytes in size. So
if you have moved your files around this might be the reason.
