Gidday Listers,

I am just starting in the world of MI and am redeveloping GIS application
currently in MicroStation/Access to MapInfo.

I wish to hold the attribute data in a remote, corporate Oracle (7.3) database,
but I am having problems finding ways I can establish an edittable link
between the spatial data and the attribute data.

MI (5.5) seems to need to interact with a table, rather than a view, and to
have an index, and in any case, as soon as I join the attribute data to the
spatial data with a query, I can only read the attributes for each
polygon/region. The attributes become un-edittable.

At least part of the problem seems to be because I have a 1-to-many
relationship between the polygons and the attributes; even when the attribute
table is a true MapInfo table, if I join it to the table of regions (with a
query) I cannot edit the data.

Is there something simple I have missed or is this type of structure
inappropriate for a GIS application?

I would be grateful for any pointers.
