panta rhei information technology, Melbourne, Australia, announces a
MapInfo MID/MIF export translator for VectorWorks. The translator is
intended for landscape architects, urban planners, facilities
managers etc. who use CAD for their actual work, but also want to
utilise GIS for more sophisticated analyses than any CAD system is
capable of.

The translator is designed to minimise the need of typing data
entries by using 'implied' (already existing) properties of objects
as columnar data.

Many CAD programs only allow attributes to be attached to 'blocks,'
(eg. DXF) but in VectorWorks, any object can have one or more
attached 'data records'.

These factors make VectorWorks the easiest to use 'front end' program
and graphics editor for GIS in planning and design.

For many purposes, the generic translator is sufficient, but for more
demanding situations, panta rhei information technology is capable of
writing custom export and import translators at a low cost.

VectorWorks(TM) (formerly known as MiniCAD) is a well-known general
purpose CAD program published by Diehl Graphsoft, Columbia, Maryland,
USA, and is widely used by architects and landscape architects in
over 80 countries. For more information about VectorWorks, see
http://www.diehlgraphsoft.com/ Diehl Graphsoft Inc. is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Nemetschek GMBH, Germany, a leading publisher of
CAD software for the European market.
