Hi everyone:

Can someone please help me resolve a WMF dilemma? I am in the midst of
purchasing a color laserjet to print MS word reports that contain mapinfo
maps as windows metafiles. The first three printers I've tested (from
tektronix, lexmark, and HP) had some problems printing the word files that
contain WMFs. These problems have ranged from the 'just plain bizarre' to
the 'downright funny'. In the course of all of this heartache, I've learned
that WMFs are configured for the PCL printer language. Naturally, I went to
HP which uses PCL as a native language (others generally being postscript,
PCL "emulations", or others). The color laserjet HP that I am testing now
has an interesting quirk: it draws the nodes of the polygons in the wrong
order, so that nodes that shouldn't be connected are and lines cut across
solid polygons, producing a kind of extruded effect. But now that I'm
printing to the Native PCL driver, I'm confused as to why the WMFs are not
printing as they appear on the screen in the word document. I have found the
same results across all three Windows OSs (95,98,2000). And I have not seen
any problems remotely like this on my ink jets. Has anyone else ever
encountered anything like this? I'll take any and all suggestions. I'll take
suggestions on color laser printers, too, but I would like to avoid
returning yet another printer (it's starting to feel a little bit too much
like Ground Hog Day). Thank you!

I will SUM.
