Hi Dawn,
As for the difference in menus, it's probably because we're using two
different versions.
I'm running the FontCreator version 3.0 beta 1 (build3.0.0.83 beta 1).
But it's apparently the same setting, so you should be ok.
As for the "Mer's Animals", you're correct. To verify the functionality, I
just made
a copy of an ordinary text font, and designated that as a symbol font. That
worked.
But I now downloaded the font in question, and tried to modify it,
unsuccessfully.
I noticed that there are very few settings actually set in the "Mer's
Animals" font,
so maybe MapInfo has other demands apart from the font just being symbolic
?
Maybe someone from MapInfo Corp. should answer that question !
There's a work-around, however. All TrueType fonts are accessible for text
insertion.
So to insert e.g. a moose from "Mer's Animals", you insert a text string of
"5" with that font,.
It's not a perfect substitution, because there's a side-effect : they're
fixed in size.
But that may actually be preferred in some cases.
Regards
Lars Nielsen

Hi Lars
I have been following this thread with interest - so I tried doing what
you suggested and downloaded FontCreator Jan 2000 version.
I downloaded Meranimals.TTF from the site suggested by Jacques, selected
all -
Then I couldn't find the option:
"Format/Settings/Classification/Family Kind" to Pictorial
string you talked about only "General/Metrics/Classification/Family
Kind"
I saved the file to a new name and installed it with my other TTF font
files,
however the result is not a Symbol Library in MapInfo (which is what I
want)
It is a library under the Text options which means you have to use the
lettering tool.
I am sure you were describing a process that would make the TTF file
into a symbol library?
I must be missing something so obvious.........
