Dear MI List,

Sorry up front if you don't care for this rant. Please delete it if you
are not interested. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

I rarely receive viruses, but when I do, it is usually from this list,
though not exclusively. I don't want to single anyone out. Everyone has
an off day. No one is perfect least of all me. There may be valid reasons
for not using antivirus software. I am just not aware of them.

Having said all that...

Whenever I access my email and see that "virus" message pop up on the
screen telling me that my antivirus software wouldn't let the offending
file through, I can't help but wonder what is wrong with those people that
don't have up-to-date antivirus software running at all times on their
computers. I know mistakes will happen and that the two people who sent
Kak worm infected messages today probably were themselves infected from the
person who sent the infected file yesterday. These people have no idea
they are infected until someone tells them. Someone who has current
antivirus software running on their computers.

Viruses have been around for a long time. This one has been around for at
least six months and is set to activate on the 11th say of the month at
4:00 according to Symantec's notes (that's tomorrow for all you people that
are infected). Up-to-date antivirus software works. It is relatively
cheap (certainly when you compare it to the cost of your computer and
replacing all the files/work that may be lost not to mention lost time).

I just don't understand why anyone would not protect themselves against
this type of problem when it is so preventable.

It's like driving around without a seat belt. If you get into an accident,
you may walk away, but you may not. You have a much better chance if you
are wearing your seat belt.

Buckle up!

That's it. End of rant. Back to our regular programming.

Andrea
