Hari,
I don't know which version of MIFSHAPE you are using, but the problem
may possibly be with MIFSHAPE. It has misbehaved for us in the past
also. However, it is also possible that there is something in the MIF
which is causing the problem, as this has also occurred for us. It
doesn't seem to be a problem for going back to TAB, but does interfere
with conversion to other formats.
One possible option (if you have Arcinfo!) is to use Arclink and export
it to e00 format, import this in Arcinfo, then use the 'arcshape'
command to create a shapefile (arcshape has also been known to create
'strange' shapefiles for us, but generally is OK).
If not, a colleague of mine has developed a Perl program which we
sometimes use for doing conversions (MIF/SHP, SHP/MIF, etc) and, barring
any problems inherent to the original files, this usually works quite
well. The program is still in the development stage, so not freely
accessible, but if you don't have any problems forwarding the file I
could try this approach to convert it for you.
Hope that helps.
