To get into arcinfo 8 there are several methods.
You could just dump the data out into shape files and use those.  That will
work fine.
Once as shapefiles you could just use those as is or use the geodatabase
import wizard and pull them into an actual geodatabase (stored in access,
sqlserver, oracle or whatever).  Although u could use coverages in ai8, u do
not have to.  just use the mi55 universal translator and make the shape
files.  there are some freebie addons to pull mif/mid direct into
geodatabases aswell.  quite a few options!
