James -
First, I should echo others comments about the merits of
building libraries of re-usable mbo's. However, since you describe
yourself as new to the MapBasic environment I was wondering if your
problem wasn't similiar to one I had when I was first starting out. The
only time I ever ran into trouble with file sizes was when I learned the
trick of pasting code into programs from MapInfo Workspaces. This can
be a good time saver, and isn't a bad way to learn some code.
Workspaces, however contain allot of code that simply isn't needed. Try
commenting out some code that sets labels and styles for layers -
MapInfo default values will be fine in many cases. If the program still
compiles and runs to your satisifaction than you can delete the
commented sections out of your program. This is easier than breaking
out code into seperate modules, and cheaper than a third party text
editor. In the long run however I think you will want to make the leap
into modular programming.
Ignore me if I assumed wrong about using code from workspaces.

Hi everyone,
I am rather new to the MB coding environment and I am a bit confused
about the issue of the max. MapBasic file size. Is it true that the max.
file size can only reach 64Kb within the MB editor? My MB script is
currently at 58Kb and rapidly growing. Should I be using a text editor
to write the code and then use the "Compile from File" option in MB?
TIA...your time is greatly appreciated.
