We just got AutoCad 2000i LT. Some e files from engineers drop right in
place, some don't due to non-earth projections. So we got a program to open
.dwg's and convert them ourselves to dxf. I have a new subdivision file
from the engineers, drawn in non-earth projection, 0,0 origin. I need it in
MapInfo. So, I started the serious job of playing with the new program and
discovered this method.
This program has a command called BMPOUT, entered at the command line, that
creates a bit map file. I don't think it's in any of the menus or tool
bars. You are then prompted to select objects to include in the export. I
selected the new parcel boundaries, ROWs , Back of Curbs, and utility
easements.
Then, in MapInfo, I opened up the bit map file as a raster image and
registered the image using the current parcel table to pick points. It fell
right in line. Then I drew the parcel regions over the registered image (ie
Heads up digitizing) and had the results quickly done. This was much faster
then using our digitizer table and photocopies of the plat.
