Do you mean you want to have all objects/lines/text of the same type come up
in the same style for each file? If so, there is a little-known but
excellent program called GBM
Mapping System, which sets a database of object styles, and by changing the
central database all files can be easily updated to reflect the new style
(be it text, line, or polygon, styled by colour and line thickness). You can
even set up a number of databases to reflect different projects.
For more details, see www.pelicangeographics.co.uk or
www.geobasemap.com/index.html for a demo download and to find a local
reseller.

I want to assign specific line weights, colors, and label fonts to
designated files, such that every time I open these coverages the assigned
feature appear. Furthermore when I reshape coverage polygons that the
updated feature will attain the associated "feature characteristics."
