Title: RE: MI-L I need to translate NAD 83 coordinates into NAD 27 and/or visa-versa

That wont work.  That only changes the projection, not the actual coordinates.  The lat/long of a property in NAD 27 is different than the lat/long of the same property in NAD 83.  So, if you merely change the projection, the lat/long doesn't change, which is what needs to happen.  When switching from NAD 27 to NAD 83, the lat/long needs to be re-calculated.

The same effect is achieved if you open two files, one was created with a NAD 83 projection and the other with a NAD 27 projection.  If they are overlayed, one of them will be changed temporarily to match the projection of the other.  However, the lat/longs don't change and the points will still be offset.  The actual lat/longs need to change, not just the way they are displayed.  That is what the translator program does.

      Hey all,
I have Mapinfo flood zone and street data in NAD 27 coordinates, but I have Zip+4 centroid files in NAD 83 coordinates.  I need to be able to convert one into the other, preferably taking the Zip+4 data and converting it to NAD 27 because that involves the least amount of work.  Where can I get a program to convert the lat/long coordinates?  Can I get one for free?  How much would a program cost to buy?  etc. etc.  Thank you all for you help.
